Art has a way of surprising the artist. There can be an idea or a direction you want it to go in, but the process changes it. Although you may dream about the finished product, you never really know what it will look like. You start out simple, it’s like testing the waters, let the vision become realized. As you continue to add layers the art becomes something else. By this point the art is in control and you are just along for the ride. If you want to go with the flow, pour.

Pour art is becoming increasingly popular, Instagram has just under 40K posts tagged #pourart. If you’ve ever done a pour you can understand the obsession. It’s messy, it easy, and it’s mesmerizing to watch. It’s as simple as picking out colors, pouring them on a canvas, and mixing them around. This was my first attempt at pour art, and it won’t be my last.

In all my time on Instagram I have found 3 main pour styles: dirty pour, fluid painting, and resin pour. In the next few weeks I will experiment with all three styles. I hope you will join me on this pour challenge journey.
