At parties, I’ll start talking and notice everyone is looking at me and feel dumb and say, ‘forget it.’ and then start eating things. - Kristen Wiig
Gurtey’s is the name I gave my bar. Ok it’s my nickname but it’s perfect for a bar/kitchen. I got the nickname when we misheard the pronunciation of a name. My family was watching an episode of SNL; Kristen Wiig (LOVE HER!) was playing girl with a big round puff of hair and a bow on top. If you’re not familiar, I’m talking about the class trouble maker; Gilly. When we first watched the skit we thought they had said Gurtey, hence the nickname. We later realized they were saying Gilly, but the nickname was stuck.

Why did I use Gurtey to name the bar? I like the idea of a bar named after the owner. I like a classic bar with brick walls, fancy glasses, and colorful characters. The kind of place you want to leave your mark, with a signature on the wall. A graffiti wall was a must for Gurtey’s; not only to show case the logo but also to collect signatures and memories.
Once the idea was realized, the wall was simple.
1. Find fake brick (I found these panels at Lowes.)
2. Install the panels (Thanks dad!)
3. Design logo (In this case, design a font.)
4. Sketch out logo (I used dry erase marker.)
5. Paint gold (I used Liquitex Basics® acrylic paint in gold.)
6. Get signatures (Thanks to my friends and family.)
7. Make memories (Cheers!)

The brick wall is the staple of Gurtey’s.
