I love fonts! Like I LOVE fonts. They are such a big part of my job, I can’t not love fonts. Give me the pretty script font like Easy November, The Heart of Everything, and Winter Calligraphy. I’ll take bold business fonts like Lemon/Milk, Beyond the Mountains, and Modern No. 20. I even like seeing the fonts of nightmares; Papyrus, Comic Sans, Hobo, and Bleeding Cowboys.

At some point all those fonts were new and trendy, but seriously NEVER use these fonts. Every time you use a nightmare font, a designer dies and haunts whoever uses those fonts. I’m kidding, but, do you really want to find out? All jokes aside fonts are my jam!
Now that you read my font rant/rave/tangent…I need to tell you…this post isn’t about fonts; well not completely. It’s about a Halloween costume inspired by a font. Last year I convinced all my co-workers to dress up as fonts, it turns out they also love fonts. We had Corleone, Bleeding Cowboys, HELLvetica, Arial Bold, Copycat, Wingdings, and yours truly Futura.

I was going to be a different font, I can’t even remember which one, but when I realized I had the perfect tutu for Futura, no other font had a chance. I already had a sparkly silver tutu and no I do not have psychic powers…I did not know I would need this tutu for a future costume. I am just the kind of girl who has the perfect tutu for every occasion.

Now that I knew I had my tutu, it was time to figure out the rest. I knew I wanted to make a bodice, but I needed sleeves first, I needed it to be appropriate for work. Have you seen how they turn leggings into a shirt…
…it works well. I found a pair of silver knit leggings and cut about a 4” diameter circle out of the crotch. That’s it, the leg holes are for your arms and the part you cut is for your head. I added a few more details to the front and back to add structure and a little sparkle.
Time for the bodice! Using my dress form, with layers of my clothes on it to ensure the bodice would fit right, I used decoupage to make the base. While this dried I did a little research for what I wanted this to look like.

Gotta love Pinterest. With these samples I let the creativity flow. I started the process, but it developed a mind of it’s own and took over. It was all a matter of cut, glue and glitter from there.
Maybe I am just a crazy designer, but this is by far my favorite Halloween costum
